Congratulations to POQ member Zela Bissett on her work that is currently showing at Noosa Regional Gallery as part of the 'Squeeze' exhibition. The exhibition showcases the work of local artist art teachers and runs until January 31st. Zela's piece in the exhibition is a large 3D paper construction using casting and hand colouring. The image doesn't do it justice. If you have a chance do go to see the work.

Members of Papermakers of Queensland will be taking part in a group exhibition, provisionally titled "Paper Bespoke" which will run at the Cooroy Butter Factory Arts Centre from June 24 until August 3 in keeping with the Noosa Long Weekend theme, Carnivale, From whimsical Victorian-inspired paper toys to harmonious symphonies of the earthy tones of papers hand-made through ingenious alchemy from backyard plants and weeds, this exhibition will provide an appreciation of the possibilities of paper. There will be opportunities to learn some of the skills and techniques involved in creating these artworks from exhibiting paper artists.

The hydroponics tunnel at Yandina Community Gardens was the perfect setting for a papermaking workshop led by Zela Bissett on January 16th. As well as being a committed gardener and conservationist  Zela has a wealth of knowledge about making paper form plants and recycled materials.
She and Joolie Gibbs will be leading the next POQ playday in Brisbane exploring the various types and properties of formation aids, including okra from the garden. See the calendar for details.

Happy New Year to all. We hope you're ready for a fantastic year of papermaking.
Thank you to Zela and Joolie who have put together all the meeting and newsletter deadline dates for 2016. You will find them in the calendar section of this website. Zela is also working on an exhibition proposal for the group later this year, and there will be more news on this as things develop.
Our first meeting for the year will be on February 21st at BVAC in Brisbane. Zela and Joolie will be demonstrating the use of formation aids, both synthetic and natural- how to use them and how to make them. We hope you can attand.

Quite a few POQ members made the trip to Noosa to see this  exhibition by Fiona Dempster and Susan Bowers at Noosa Regional Gallery .The exhibition celebrated the artist book in a collaborative and diverse body of work. It was open by Caren Florence and the artist talks and opening were a step back into the past when Noosa seemed like the centre of the artist book world, with many of the old exhibitors and visitors in the crowds.

After the meetings we were taken on a journey to the outback station Curtain Springs where Liz has just finished a residency. It was a great insight into a new papermaking facility and life in central Australia. Members of POQ who were not at the meeting can read about Liz's residency in the latest newsletter.
